This spectacular new trail is Europe's best trekking secret. The "Peaks of The Balkans Trail" leads to one of the most remote and wild mountainous regions of the western Balkans. Until 20 years ago, the region had been almost inaccessible for visitors. Now the hike across the mountains of Albania, Kosovo and Montenegro make this an authentic cultural experience and adventure! The region is known for its hospitality and hikers can enjoy staying in one of the traditional farm houses found along the trail in all three countries. Accommodations range from traditional stone houses to mountain huts and small mountain lodges where your hosts prepare local foods and traditional dishes.
This hike can be 120 miles over 10-13 days or is easily shortened to meet your time and interests.
Join "The Two Manitou Nancys" as they share their experience of this amazing part of the world.
Nancy Wilson was a U. S. Peace Corps volunteer serving in Kosovo when she learned of this hike. Nancy Fortuin, a friend, fellow adventurer, and retired Army Colonel traveled from Colorado to join her in June 2016 to take advantage of this amazing experience.
