Family Development Credential® Trainers Institute

Description:
The FDC Instructors Institute is a 4 day in person train-the-trainer for those interested in teaching the Empowerment Skills for Workers course, a component of the comprehensive curriculum of theFamily Development Credential® (FDC) Program. Empowerment Skills for Workers is a community-based, interactive professional development training for family service workers interested in using the principles and practices of the Family Development strength-based approach.

The Family Development Credential Program (by the University of Connecticut) is a professional development and credentialing program that provides frontline family workers with the knowledge and skills they need to coach families to set and reach their own goals for healthy self-reliance in their communities. The program focuses on a strength-based partnership approach that develops workers both professionally and personally. 

Cost: 
Trainer Institute Registration: $850.00 (includes pre- and post- training consultation; refreshments & lunch during training dates)
FDC Book: $65.00 (order separately)

Important Notes:
  • This training is not to earn the FDC.
  • Previous FDC experience is not required.
  • Once trained, you may earn the FDC while you teach your class (more information provided during the training)

Presenter:
Ericka Williams is the Manager of Family and Child Support Services for Catholic Charities Diocese of Joliet, Early Childhood Services Division (Early Head Start and Head Start). She is responsible for overseeing the social services component areas on a daily basis which includes managing the center’s transportation, child care, father engagement, family engagement, policy council, PROMIS database, ReadyRosie database, program eligibility, monitoring and maintaining reports and a center director.

Ericka has a Master Degree in Early Childhood Education with a specialization in Family & Community Services and is currently working on a Master Degree in Social Work with a specialization in addiction. Ericka strongly believes that young children and families are the future of our nation's society. She feels that it is the responsibility of all Early Childhood Educators to nurture, motivate and educate parents in understanding the impact of their positive parenting in their children's lives. Ericka loves helping and encouraging the board and staff.

Details:
Registration includes a 4-day facilitator/instructor training in the FDC Program by a master facilitator.

Prospective FDC Instructors will have the opportunity to practice and enhance their skills by facilitating activities, network and share information with fellow instructors.

After the Institute, the master facilitator will provide support to those who attended the training consultation sessions to individuals who successfully complete all requirement will be certified and recognized as official FDC instructors and be allowed to teach the course on their own. If additional trainees participate from the same agency, they will be included in the coaching/mentoring cohort. To be clear, this training will NOT earn you the Family Development Credential.  It will certify you to facilitate (teach) the 90 hour course and review portfolios that leads to earning the credential.

All prospective applicants must complete the Instructors Institute Application form along with submitting written responses outlining their training experience, and plans to offer the course in their communities (see questions below). Please note the application also requires the signature of the applicant’s immediate supervisor. Applications can be emailed to:

Applicants are selected for the FDC Instructors Institute based on these criteria: 
  • The applicant meets the necessary qualifications to attend the Instructors Institute. 
  • Submits a complete application (application form, responses, and supervisor’s supporting signature)
  • Purchase book material prior to the trainer institute
  • Complete assigned homework prior to attending on the first day
