Applications are being accepted for a Plant Maintenance/Operator I at the Water and Wastewater Plants. Applicants without certification start as an Operator in Training and must obtain a Class I Water or Wastewater Treatment certificate within 2 years of employment. Applications also accepted from applicants who already have Class I, II, or III certifications. Applications accepted until position filled. Normal work hours are 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., M-F, occasionally nights and weekends. Works scheduled and emergency overtime.
Under general supervision, performs semi-skilled mechanical work, maintenance and repair of water, wastewater, and pool facilities; performs treatment operator duties; documents and maintains records.
Installs, repairs, and maintains water and wastewater treatment equipment, facilities, lift stations, and swimming pool, e.g., performs plumbing work including cutting, threading, and welding pipe; installs and replaces pumps, compressors, motors, valves, and related equipment; lubricates bearings and equipment; replaces seals, gaskets, springs, gears, bearings, shafts, brushes, and other parts; installs water pipes, conduit, copper tubing, and similar lines; washes and maintains filters; maintains buildings and grounds; troubleshoots electrical components; performs preventive maintenance on equipment.
Performs duties of a treatment operator; assists in training plant operators; loads, removes, hauls, and applies sludge from plants; performs general maintenance of facility, e.g., sweeps and mops floors, cleans restroom, washes windows, empties trash, paints, mows lawn, shovels snow.
Documents and maintains records of repairs and maintenance of equipment; enters information into computer; may research and purchase parts and supplies; travels to obtain parts and supplies; cleans and maintains tools, equipment, vehicles, and shop area; assists anywhere in times of emergencies; prepares and submits reports as required.
Qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS: An example of acceptable qualifications.
Completion of secondary education with training or some experience in mechanical maintenance work involving plumbing, welding, electrical, and mechanical installation and repair; must possess a phone.
LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess Class I Water or Wastewater Treatment Operator certificate; valid State of Ohio Class A or B commercial driver's license with tanker endorsement (can be obtained after employment) and remain insurable under the City's vehicle insurance policy.
If applicant does not have a Treatment Operator’s certificate, applicant will be classified as an Operator in Training and must obtain a Class I Water or Wastewater Treatment Operator certificate within two (2) years following date of appointment as a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator in Training. Any employee failing to obtain this certification within two (2) years shall be removed for incompetency. Employee will be re-classified as a Plant Maintenance/Operator I when Class I Treatment Operator certificate is received.
