THE ORGANIZATION
The Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District protects public health and the environment by leading effective wastewater and stormwater management. As the largest wastewater treatment provider in the State of Ohio, the Sewer District spans 380 square miles, serves 63 communities and one million residents, and treats 90 billion gallons of wastewater a year.
In addition to its award-winning treatment plant and laboratory performance, the Sewer Districts Project Clean Lake construction program will reduce annual Lake Erie pollution by 4 billion gallons by 2036, while its Regional Stormwater Management Program addresses widespread inter-community problems like flooding, pollution, and erosion.
THE POSITION
Installs, maintains, repairs, and troubleshoots flow and level monitoring equipment including meters, sensors, and cables to evaluate and improve the performance of the Sewer District’s wastewater collection system and stormwater system. Assists with the creation of graphs, trends, and reports from the monitoring, survey, and field data. Verifies and ensures integrity and quality of data. Utilize survey and GPS collection equipment to collect and assemble data. Reviews, evaluates, and responds to Ohio Utility Protection Service notices as directed. Maintains, updates, and categorizes documents. Performs other duties of a similar nature as may be required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Installs, maintains, repairs, and troubleshoots level and flow monitors, including meters, sensors, and cables, to provide data and assists with the evaluation of the operational condition of various combined sewer regulators, outfalls, sanitary sewers, combined sewers, and stormwater conduits and streams.
- Collects and assembles data from various internal and external sources to assist in investigation of wastewater collection system and stormwater related problems. Verifies and ensures integrity and quality of data. Assist with the creation of reports, graphs, and trends from the monitoring, survey, and field data.
- Utilize survey and GPS collection equipment to collect and assemble data such as elevations, grades, and references to support Collection System and Stormwater projects.
- Assists with documenting and calibrating monitoring equipment. Creates maps, charts, and graphs using the appropriate computer software.
- Reviews, evaluates, and responds to Ohio Utility Protection Service notices as directed. Locates, identifies, and marks Sewer District underground utilities before any excavation. Researches survey data and property ownership records. Locates and evaluates reference material.
- Perform field inspections as needed to collect data to support operational activities.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature as may be required.
Pay Range: USD, Commensurate with Experience
$24.71 - $29.64 per hour

Qualifications:
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION
Candidate must possess a high school diploma, GED or state recognized equivalent.
Coursework toward an associate degree or trade school certificate or diploma is preferred but not required.
EXPERIENCE
Candidate must possess one (1) year of work experience in wastewater collection or stormwater systems. Experience with ESRI based software such as ArcGIS preferred but not required.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
LICENSURE AND CERTIFICATIONS
- Candidate must possess a valid state of Ohio driver’s license with a driving record in accordance with the Sewer District’s acceptable guidelines.
- The successful candidate must possess a valid Class I State of Ohio Wastewater Collection System Operator certificate OR achieve Class I Operator-In-Training status within thirty-six (36) months of being placed in the position.
- Candidate must obtain a certificate of completion of the Red Cross Standard Multimedia First Aid Course and C.P.R. certification within six (6) months of employment and be recertified as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Candidate must be proficient with Microsoft Office Excel and Word software. Knowledge of AutoCAD/Geographic Information Systems/Land Surveying software is preferred.
- Candidate must possess the ability to understand and follow verbal, written, and diagrammatic instructions.
- Candidate must have the ability to use a variety of hand and power tools.
- Candidate must possess effective written and verbal communication, organizational skills and decision-making abilities.
- Candidate must possess the ability to effectively plan, coordinate, establish and maintain effective working relationships and prioritize workloads based on available resources.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
During the course of performing the essential functions of this position the employee must be able to compare, compute, analyze, synthesize, copy, compile, and coordinate. Ability to communicate while exhibiting strong interpersonal skills is required. Physical work will need to be performed, such as standing, sitting, balancing, kneeling, crawling, handling, feeling, hearing, walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, reaching, fingering and talking. Ability to lift up to 90 lbs., however manhole covers can exceed 100 lbs. Therefore, the use of a lifting dolly with a magnet(s) is required. Position will require visual demands of near and far acuity, depth perception, color vision and accommodation. While performing the duties of the position, the employee must be able to spend up to 80% of time outdoors and may experience exposure to very loud noise, extreme weather, atmospheric conditions, vibrations, hazards, restricted working environment and wet and/or humid conditions wearing required personal protective equipment including respiratory protection and breathing apparatus. Hearing and respiratory protection is required.
