Member Profile:
Largely self-taught in canvas art, Barbara Bowman draws much of her inspiration from nature, unconventional wisdom and extensive travel. She grew up mostly in Colorado, but she is a self-proclaimed nomad. Why? Because she also claims roots in the east coast, west coast, south coast and mid-west. Bowman's independent nature instilled her with a zest for world culture and helped to root a serious appreciation of the vibrant, majestic colors of all landscapes, as she has explored many countries from a young age, and often solo. Early in her career, Bowman painted in the figurative style; realistic images detailed on glass, designs for internationally recognized corporate brands and cruise lines, as well as a wall muralist for both private and corporate clients throughout the U.S. Bowman draws inspiration from contemporary American artist, Mark Rothko. She became impassioned with Rothko and his fervent desire for drama to be seen in his works. She expresses herself similarly, reflecting her own outspokenness, sense of adventure, and passion for life, and often a depiction of her travels or experience. She pays vigorous attention to balanced, brilliant hues, depth, and expanding dimensions. Her colors are intricately woven and meticulously layered to create a visual journey. |
