clever lyrics (from anon. 14th-c. Italian text) and unusual discordant harmonies.

Hillyer was the founder and director of the Olde Pipes Recorder Consort at the Low Country Senior Center on James Island, South Carolina, which he led for ten years. An organist and organ builder, he taught recorder and was a professor of such various subjects as Latin, art, music, history and philosophy.
