This talk introduces the Lancet Arbovirus Commission’s “Building Out Aedes” framework, an integrated strategy that combines immediate epidemic control tools with long-term urban planning, infrastructure, and governance reforms to eliminate mosquito habitats and reduce human–mosquito contact. Drawing on emerging evidence, global experiences, and lessons from successful national programmes, the session will outline how cities can lead transformative, sustainable action to protect populations, strengthen resilience, and ultimately remove Aedes-transmitted diseases as a public health threat. \n \nKey findings from the RAFT research programme on Aedes risk in urban environments, and management of plastic waste in cities, will also be shared.
