SUMMARY:BRIEFING: Oklahoma Commission Equine Protection Orders
LOCATION:
DESCRIPTION:BRIEFING: Oklahoma Commission Equine Protection Orders\n\n05/14/26 12:00 PM EST\n - 05/14/26 01:00 PM EST\Description:\nThe Oklahoma Racing Commission has implemented a novel and new approach to protect horses in the care of trainers who have been found to have managed equine athletes who have shown an abnormal and materially elevated pattern of severe post-race distress, including repeated incidents in which horses were unable to safely leave the track under their own power and required transport from the racing surface.   The commission has issued Emergency Protective Orders that states that the pattern was repeated, documented, and sufficiently serious to require immediate regulatory intervention affecting over 170 quarter horses in the care of three trainers.    \n\nThe orders are temporary and intended to make sure that affected horses undergo greater scruitiny to ensure that they are not at risk when allowed to return to racing.\n\nIn my opinion, this is a novel and aggresive approach to safeguard horses and get to the bottom of relevant issues.   \n\nDue to the nature of the discussion, this briefing is limited to ARCI Member regulatorr personnel.\n\n\nThis is a briefing for all ARCI Member regulatory personnel so everyone understands what is going on in Oklahoma and to consider the applicability of utilize a similar approach within their own jurisdictions.\n\nWe are appreciative to Oklahoma's Interim Executive Director Amanda English for her willingness to provide a full briefing.   This webinar is limited to ARCI Member regulatory personnel.\n\nRegistration is required.  There is no cost.
