Event Description
Join us for an open house tour of VIA CDC’s first new construction home built with the $100,000 Impact100 grant they received in 2023! Located at 1217 S. 35th Street in Milwaukee’s Silver City neighborhood, the open house will be held on Wednesday, August 7 from 5:30-6:30 pm with a short program about the building process at 6:00 pm. After the tour, please join us at Botanas Restaurant at 816 S. 5th Street in Milwaukee (a short drive away) to connect with other Impact100 members and VIA staff while enjoying complimentary light appetizers and cash bar. For our service project, we will be creating a “Welcome Home” starter kit of cleaning and household supplies for the new homeowner with optional donations collected. If you would like to participate, please bring an item from VIA’s suggestion list (Linked Here) or a gift card for Target, Walmart, or Amazon.
VIA CDC has approximately 30 years of experience building strong, healthy neighborhoods where residents can thrive. Their Turnkey Program was established in 2008 to address multiple goals of increasing affordable housing, reducing crime and blight, and increasing home values in minority neighborhoods. In 2023, VIA shifted their work from renovation to new construction through the development of entry-level homes on Milwaukee’s vacant lots. This is an opportunity to connect with Via, see the completed home, and hear about what was learned in the process as they gear up to build 14 homes next year! Space is limited to 30 people, so if you are unable to attend, please make sure to cancel your registration so someone on the waitlist can join in!
