Presentation Description:
Presented by: Jason Turret, PsyD and Hale Martin, PhD
Approaches for assessing specific learning disorders (SLD) continue to evolve. The Pattern of Strengths and Weaknesses Model (PSW) is a promising new approach that has emerged from empirical evidence to improve diagnostic accuracy. At the same time, Therapeutic Assessment (TA), an alternative model of assessment (Finn 2007), has been challenging traditional models of assessment. In TA, the assessor and client work to answer their questions they posed for the assessment. In this way the results become more personal and meaningful. The tests are “empathy magnifiers'' that help clients better understand their strengths and challenges. This workshop will address both of these important developments and highlight the compatibility of the TA approach and the PSW model. Case examples will illustrate how TA can enhance the PSW model in significant ways.
