Institutionalization 2.0: Criminalization of people with disabilities (FISA)
Date/Time

2:00 PM - 3:00 PM Eastern
Event Description

Throughout the Race + Disability series, we have explored the school to prison pipeline, in which children are excluded from educational opportunities and referred to police, starting as early as preschool. This pattern is most pronounced for children of color and children with disabilities.

This pattern extends into adulthood, with disproportionately high rates of arrest, detainment and incarceration of people with disabilities in the criminal legal system. While incarcerated, accessibility accommodations are often unavailable or denied.

Through this webinar we will explore the issues of criminalization of people with disabilities and highlight best practices and strategies for interrupting this pattern and reducing unjust incarceration of people with disabilities.
