Plant Description: Elk Rapids Wastewater Treatment Plant serves the village of elk rapids as well as a portion of the township north of the village. The plant was upgraded in 2016 from lagoons to a hybrid extended aeration lagoon system. The plant is designed to treat an average daily flow of 0.582 MGD with a peak flow of 2.2 MGD. Elk Rapids is a resort town, and our flows drastically change between the summer and winter months. We reach flows up to 0.400 MGD during July and August, and down to 0.190 MGD in December and January. The treatment process is influent screening and grit removal, extended aerated lagoons to secondary clarifiers, a tertiary stainless steel disk filter followed by ultraviolet lamps for disinfection.
