Description:
Clinical supervision emphasizes improving the counseling skills and counseling effectiveness of supervisees. It is also about helping counselors use personal skills and attributes to promote behavioral changes in their clients. When it comes to social justice, supervision can be an effective collaboration to provide foundational knowledge and skills and explore the knowledge and skills relating to social justice competencies and go beyond these. This workshop is divided into three parts. In the first part, we review the multicultural and social justice competencies set forth by the ACA. We will explore personal and shared knowledge and skills of the competencies The second part goes beyond the competencies to explore and examine the uncomfortable topics of the supervisor, supervisee, and the relationship. In the final
part, we explore the CLASSIC framework, various counseling strategies, questions, and action steps to support the supervisee and advocate for the client, while taking care of the supervisor. An individual development plan will also be explored to measure supervisee progress.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of this workshop, you will be able to:
1. Identify the general foundation of the social justice competencies.
2. Rediscover two strategies you currently do well to assist supervisee development
3. Identify two new strategies to assist in the supervision process
4. Identify the role that shame may play
5. Identify one area you want to further your awareness and how you will do this
6. Identify the role of the individual development plan.
