Know Your Enemy: Mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance in the clinic
Mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance can often be deduced (or at least predicted) from antimicrobial susceptibility testing results. We will review some examples of cases in the clinic where identifying a mechanism of resistance can aid in antimicrobial selection. We will also discuss some examples of how mechanistic testing may drive antimicrobial selection in the future in veterinary medicine by looking at recent outcomes studies from human medicine.
