Setting Expectations and Having Difficult Conversations
$50 for ORA Members
Learning Goals + Details
This interactive training is designed for direct supervisors and managers of direct support professionals (DSPs) who lead teams in dynamic, person-centered environments. Grounded in trauma-informed practices and coaching-based leadership, the session equips participants to navigate challenging conversations with clarity, empathy, and confidence.
Leaders/supervisors/managers will learn to:
- Set and communicate clear expectations
- Address sensitive topics with emotional intelligence and relational care
- Manage conflict constructively and coach staff through moments of tension
Key focus areas include effective communication techniques, active listening, trauma-informed engagement, and strategies for maintaining professionalism under pressure. Participants will also explore how to foster psychological safety and model calm, reflective leadership in high-stress situations.
By the end of the session, attendees will be prepared to lead difficult conversations with poise—strengthening relationships, supporting staff growth, and cultivating resilient, collaborative teams.
