Event Description
This Nebraska Academy of Sciences Teach-In will explore the history of Vaccines, and the process by which a vaccine must pass in order to be approved.  The Panel will also discuss the Politization of Vaccines and its impacts on society.  Come and learn all about Vaccines with a discussion from an expert Panel featuring Creighton Univeristy faculty:  Dr. Annemarie Shibata, Professor of Biology, Director of Undergraduate Neuroscience Program; Dr. Ann O'Keefe, Professor and Vice Chair of Public Health, and Dr. Kristen Drescher, Professor, Medical Microbiology and Immunology.

The recent politicization of vaccines has lead to misinformation and confusion about lifesaving vaccinations.  Who can you trust when the highest levels of government conflict with science?  This panel of experts will cover all of your questions regarding vaccines, how they work, both in the lab and in the human body.

The Panel discussion will include:
  • The discovery of vaccines and a brief history of vaccines in medicine to prevent disease
  • The scientific process involved in creating and approving a vaccine
  • How a vaccine works inside of a human body
