This practical workshop introduces the fundamentals of cross-connection control and backflow prevention for rural water systems. Participants will learn how backflow occurs, common hazards found in rural systems, and how to identify and prevent contamination risks before problems happen. Topics include backpressure, backsiphonage, irrigation and agricultural hazards, backflow prevention devices, and basic Colorado CDPHE program requirements. Real-world examples, simple field scenarios, and practical guidance will help attendees understand how to start or improve an effective cross-connection control program using existing staff and resources.
