Details:
Provide overall direction and supervision of the Financial Aid department. Responsible for implementation, administration, and evaluation of goals, policies, and systems that promote a successful Financial Aid Department. Research compliance requirements with the US Department of Education’s rules and regulations, and assist students and parents through the financial aid cycle.

Facilitate outstanding service to prospective students and parents by fostering an environment that provides responsive, effective, and timely services
Create campus-based processes and procedures to ensure prompt and accurate financial aid and business office reporting.
Ensure all financial aid is correctly administered at the student level.
Support and mentor team to achieve departmental goals and objectives
Manage the completion of the annual Financial Aid audit process
Review compliance of all regulatory campus measures including, but not limited to, 90/10, gainful employment, refund timeliness, and default management.
Collaborate with Finance Department to ensure trial balances are reviewed and all financial aid issues are addressed promptly
Oversee Reconciliation of the Direct Loan funds
Maintain compliance to schools and outside regulatory bodies with regard to Financial Aid
Maintain an in-depth understanding of all changes and prospective changes in the management of Title IV. Informs executive team and Board of Trustee of changes and impacts of changes in the organization.
Analyze and adjust procedures to ensure continued compliance in a dynamic changing environment.
Communicate any changes to ECAR
Manage compliance with the PPA requirements
Maintain active membership in financial aid associations such as CASFAA and NASFAA
Manage the Financial Aid reporting calendar and communicate reporting deadlines to the executive team
Provide professional development and training for department staff
Adhere to laws, external regulations, internal policies, procedures, and requirements governing areas of responsibility
Participate in college-wide activities and serve on college committees
Other duties and projects as assigned by manager


Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in a related area or equivalent education and experience.

Experience:
Eight or more years of experience managing a financial aid department at a post-secondary institution.

Skills:
Expert knowledge of FERPA and federal, state, and institutional financial-aid program rules, regulations, and processes.
Ability to use automated systems such as EdConnect, COD, NSLDS, ELM and Campus Nexus
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Excellent organizational skills.
Ability to collect and analyze information
Ability to meet deadlines and juggle multiple, important priorities.
Comfortable in a fast-paced environment
Excellent written, verbal and listening skills.
Ability and willingness to discern and meet the needs of students.
Ability to establish interpersonal rapport and relate to individuals from a wide range of backgrounds and cultures
Strong computer skills including the ability to collect and analyze information and learn new programs
Competent with Microsoft Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes some evenings and weekends.

Working conditions

This job operates in a professional office environment with extensive people interaction. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and office machines. This role requires a flexible schedule (some nights and weekends).

Occasional evening and weekend work. Extended or non-traditional hours occasionally required.


Physical requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear and use a telephone. The employee frequently is required to sit for long periods; use hands and reach with hands and arms for such activities as keyboarding.
