Details:
Serve as an operational assistant to the Director of Financial Aid, acting as the leader in his/her absence for most functions and daily activities of the Financial Aid department. Assists students and parents through the Financial Aid process. Research compliance requirements with the US Department of Education’s rules and regulations, and assist students and parents through the financial aid cycle.

Facilitate outstanding service to prospective students and parents by fostering an environment that provides responsive, effective, and timely services
Collaborate in the creation and implementation of Financial Aid processes and procedures
Support and mentor team to achieve departmental goals and objectives
Assists with departmental training and development activities
Troubleshoot and resolve student and family financial aid questions or issues
Interview, package and process financial aid for students directly, as necessary
Communicate actively with the Admissions department on the packaging status of applicants
Reconcile Student Information System on a regular basis to ensure correct posting of student awards
Request and collect verification documents for those students selected and clear ISIR comment codes
Evaluate the eligibility of undergraduate and graduate financial aid applicants, utilizing ISIR data, federal tax forms, and other financial documents
Maintain Financial Aid student files, preparing complete and accurate files and paperwork
Assist in reviewing, processing, and reconciling financial aid data
Analyze and assist in interpreting all Federal, State, accreditation and institutional policies and procedures
Maintain an in-depth understanding of the financial aid process and eligibility requirements
Ensure compliance with all regulatory measures including, administration of Title IV funds, Federal Work-Study, needs-based funds, gainful employment, and default management
Adhere to laws, external regulations, internal policies, procedures, and requirements governing areas of responsibility.
Perform other duties and projects as assigned by the manager


Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in a related area or equivalent education and experience.

Experience:
Five or more years of experience in the financial aid department at a college, university or private school

Skills:
Thorough knowledge of FERPA and federal, state, and institutional financial-aid program rules, regulations, and processes
Ability to use automated systems such as (EdConnect, COD, NSLDS, ELM, and CAMS)
Excellent organizational skills. Ability to meet deadlines, juggle multiple tasks, and comfortable in a fast-paced environment
Excellent written, verbal and listening skills.
Ability and willingness to discern and meet the needs of students.
Ability to establish interpersonal rapport and relate to individuals from a wide range of backgrounds and cultures.
Strong computer skills including the ability to collect and analyze information
Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Ability to work with others as a team in a collegial and productive manner.
Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes some evenings and weekends.

Working conditions

This job operates in a professional office environment with extensive people interaction. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and office machines. This role requires a flexible schedule (some nights and weekends).

Physical requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear and use a telephone. The employee frequently is required to sit for long periods; use hands and reach with hands and arms for such activities as keyboarding.
