The Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid (OSFA) is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented professional to fill the role of Financial Aid Counselor. The selected candidate will focus on evaluating the financial needs of students and awarding financial aid according to federal, state and institutional regulations and guidelines. The successful candidate is expected to work well within a collaborative team environment as well as under their own initiative with limited supervision and high accountability.

Duties & Responsibilities

Coordinate the processing and administration of financial aid and related documentation for UA students.
Collect and/or analyze financial data on students within federal, state, donor and/or institutional guidelines.
Interact with Federal Systems (i.e., COD, CPS, NSLDS, and FAA) and must possess working knowledge of these systems.
Ensure students complete all requirements for disbursements in coordination with the college/department and other external entities.
Read, comprehend, and comply with federal, state, and institutional regulations and policies pertaining to the provision of student financial aid.
Evaluate unusual/mitigating circumstance documentation or information provided by the student; exercise judgment by making adjustment or revisions to costs, contribution, need or dependency status based on established policies or guidelines.
Analyze various system-generated reports such as grades and enrollment status or award status to verify continued compliance and eligibility of students receiving aid under federal and institutional guidelines; notify students of changes in eligibility of awards and support students towards best possible outcomes.
Interface with students and lenders, employers, donors, guarantee agencies and/or staff to resolve issues.
Provide information regarding Financial Aid policies and procedures, terms and programs to students, parents, faculty and staff via a multi-line phone system, e-mail and in person.
Meet customer needs, offer options, resolve problems and follow up with customers; ensure full customer satisfaction without unnecessarily referring customer to other staff members/departments.
Assist with other office activities such as outreach, reporting and monitoring.
Identify and prioritize problems; perform research, offer solutions, options and strategies.
Refer to appropriate person or department as needed, and/or arrange for required support for student.
Use information systems to input data, maintain databases, perform research for projects or issues and generate reports.
Assist manager in hiring and training; and [may] supervise student workers.
Evaluate program effectiveness to develop improved methods.
Participate in all meetings & committees assigned, provide new ideas and support.
Interact effectively as a member of a team and working collaboratively with others.
Assist with staff training as requested.
Assist other areas of the office as requested.
Additional duties as assigned

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Business or Public Administration, Humanities or other related field AND 3 year of experience in financial aid student counseling; OR 7 years combination of education and relevant work experience is required.
