Position Description

Reporting to the Associate Director of Financial Aid, this position is the primary contact for students, prospective students and family members. This position provides customer services and counseling for both Financial aid and Student Account Related questions. This position requires a high level of financial aid and student account knowledge of complex federal, state and institutional programs.

Essential Functions:

Financial Aid: Assist students and families with questions regarding applying for financial aid. Explain fafsa filing process, including eligibility and filing issues. Answer questions about financial aid packages and timing of awards. Provide information about scholarships, grants and how to maintain eligibility. Provide information on loans, verification, satisfactory progress and special circumstances.

Payment: Process payments made by student in person (check or debit card) or by mail for tuition and fees, admission and housing deposits, meal plans and replacement ID cards.

Student Account Management: Provide information and assist with payment and financing options, payment plans, refunds, billing schedule, account balances, lost checks, waivers on health insurance and late fees, 1098T, paid receipts and financial holds. Provide counseling to students, prospective students and family members about education financing options.

Online services: Assist student, prospective students and families with various online services including Seattle University Online, SU Student Account Center, Fafsa and the National Student Loan Data System.

Student Employment: Assist students and departments with employment documentation.

Compliance: Conduct all transactions in strict compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and including university's policies.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Qualifications

Bachelor's degree plus a minimum of two years of experience working in a Financial Aid/Student Account office, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.

Demonstrated commitment to strong customer services and the ability to resolve wide-ranging complex problems through creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause and the resolution to the problems in an effective, innovative and timely manner.

Applicant must possess the skills to counsel individuals and families in financial aid and student accounts matters and work both independently and cooperatively with other staff members and other departments.

Desktop PC, ERP system and Microsoft Office Suite experience are required.

Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, orally and by preparation of reports and other materials.

Preferred: Qualifications:
Five or more years working in a Financial Aid/Student Accounts Office.

Prior experience using the Ellucian Colleague ERP.
