This is a full-time, exempt role with work hours of 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Who You Are

You are a financial aid professional with at least five years of experience in financial aid, and you are ready to take on more responsibility. Ideally, you have worked in financial aid at an institution that serves students and families from across the broadest socioeconomic spectrum.
You have expert level knowledge of federal financial aid regulations and compliance.
You have a deep and thorough understanding of need-analysis methodologies.
You are resilient and tactful in difficult conversations. You understand that working in financial aid may require delivering news students and families may not wish to hear. You know it’s imperative to hold these conversations and you don’t procrastinate them.
You have expert level knowledge of financial aid technology. If you don’t have experience with the Banner system, you need to be excited at the prospect of digging in to a new system and learning fast. You are an early adopter of tech.
You have a positive outlook at work. It’s not that you don’t see challenges and problems, it’s that you address them methodically and with good cheer.
You are known for bringing order to your team’s work. You are a systems thinker and are always thinking about ways to get the work done faster and with fewer errors.
You like being busy and having a long and interesting To Do list. You like to crank out work. You have a heavy email load and you manage it expertly.
You are personally committed to equity and it shows in your work.
You prefer a team environment at work, rather than working alone. You don’t hesitate to roll up your sleeves and pitch in, even when it’s not your job. You’ve received feedback from your prior managers that you are an expert collaborator.

What You Will Do

Assist the Director in the overall management of the office including systems development, goal setting, policy making, and strategic planning to maximize the use of financial aid dollars to promote the recruitment and retention of Reed students. Serve as second in command in Director’s absence.

Manage a caseload of prospective and continuing students to include file review using both IM and FM methodologies. Provide expert customer service including counseling in person, virtually, over the phone, and via email.
Package student financial aid for prospective and continuing students from all sources based on standardized procedures, annual allocations, and current regulations.
Look for continued ways to improve institutional policies and procedures to ensure financial aid resources are distributed in an equitable manner and are accessible to all students.
