A postdoctoral position is available in the Neurosmog project in the Szwed lab in the department of Psychology at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland, to work on the impact of ambient air pollution and socioeconomic inequalities on the developing brain in school-age children.

The Neurosmog project endeavours to investigate the effects of air pollution on behavioural and neural changes in school-age children (Markevych et al., IJERPH, 2022). It combines four scientific teams in the fields of pollution assessment, child psychology, neuroimaging and epidemiology with the common goal of determining the impact of ambient air pollution on the developing brain in school age children. The dataset comprises high-quality MRI and rich behavioural data from 236 ADHD cases and 478 healthy controls from small and large towns in southern Poland. The candidate is expected to carry out analysis of the resting-state fMRI dataset, with the additional possibility of analyzing the sMRI data. The primary focus of the analysis should be on the effects of air pollution and socioeconomic inequality, with additional possibly of green- and bluespace effects. It will be carried out in collaboration with the Institutes\' Epidemiology group led by dr Iana Markevych.
The position is for 3 years, until December 2025.
The candidates\' job will be to build and execute MRI data analysis and to present and publish its results.


Qualifications:
Applicants must have a PhD (or equivalent) degree in epidemiology, health sciences, psychology, neuroscience, or a related field including computer science, applied mathematics, biology etc., obtained not earlier than in 2012 (extensions possible for parental leave). Previous experience in MRI imaging is indispensable. Experiences with neuroimaging packages (SPM, FSL, Freesurfer and similar), is a plus but not necessary.

The position is available until the end of December 2025.
Salary for this position will be:
In the first year, approximately 7300 PLN (Net) - for candidates who obtained their PhD after 2016, and approximately 8500 PLN (Net) - for candidates who obtained their PhD between 2013 and 2015.
In the second year, approximately 9000 PLN (Net) and in the third year approximately 9500 PLN (Net)
These salaries sufficient for a high standard life in Krakow, where living costs are substantially lower than the EU average.
