What happened: On Monday, April 11, the Economic Development Corporation (EDC) held a workshop with the Birding and Nature Center (BNC) Board members discussing the Lease and Operating Agreement.

EDC member Gayle Hood brought forward an idea from Mayor Patrick McNulty to raise the BNC’s admission by $2 to fund the EDC, in addition to $1200 in rent.

Why it matters: The BNC board Vice-President Richard Franke voiced his disappointment after mentioning that the start of the BNC was an economic development project assigned to the EDC. “The Birding and Nature Center is your (EDC Board’s) project. It was designed as an economic development project for the EDC.”

None of the original EDC members involved in starting the BNC project are currently on the board besides EDC Director Darla Lapeyre.
