Member Spotlight Meet President-Elect Julie K Gilpin |
Need to know something about Impact100? You might ask Impact100 member, Julie Gilpin (pictured above) who joined Impact100 Greater Milwaukee in 2015 and served as the training chair, communications co-chair, and on the nominating and member engagement committees. But her favorite experience? Serving on a grant committee—she said it was the most powerful volunteer experience she’s had in over 20 years.
Julie was introduced to Impact100 Greater Milwaukee by Ann Homstad who invited her to an informational meeting. |
“I was immediately drawn to the concept of women giving collectively. I am so proud of the big amount of money we give each year and how significantly those gifts impact our grantees,” she says.
When not volunteering at Impact100, Julie consults with other non-profits on human resource matters and enjoys being a mom. She and husband, Brian, live in Whitefish Bay with their three children, Jack (14), Luke (11) and Kate (4). The family loves to travel and logs lots of miles attending sporting events and family activities. Julie is an avid walker/slow jogger, enjoys baking, shopping and connecting with friends and family. Julie’s perfect day would start with a great walk and strong, hot coffee and end with champagne and a stunning sunset.
Julie hopes to inspire other women to learn about what Impact100 has to offer. And she hopes they join, increasing the pool of grant money that goes into our community. |

| Member Engagement: What do members really want? WE HEAR YOU!
There was a quiet yet powerful movement afoot last year as your membership engagement committee delved into the state of our organization’s member involvement. Who joins Impact100 and why? Why do members stay and why do some leave? What does it cost to gain a new member versus keeping current members? What could our chapter learn from other Impact100 groups?
Anne Trunzo, one of the founders of our Impact100 chapter, started this conversation last year and a few members agreed to help her investigate membership satisfaction. What started as a couple of brief meetings turned into a six month deep-dive.
This was a time-consuming task…just look at the numbers:
- Surveyed our membership and analyzed 173 completed surveys - Interviewed 25 lapsed members to see why they left Impact100 - Requested information from 25 other Impact100 chapters - Had follow up conversations with 17 Impact100 chapters - Spent over 400 hours collecting data
“At the beginning, Anne provided us with tons of interesting articles about volunteering especially in the emerging, post-Covid world. We learned that our members want to be more engaged with Impact100 specifically with smaller, one-off tasks. So you’ll see more opportunities like that going forward,” says Meg Boyle, a member of the task force.
Huge thank you to the member engagement committee: Mary Therese Breger, Meg Boyle, Julie Gilpin, Cynthia Harris, Maureen Kenfield, Margaret Krei, Kathy Morris, Ann Pierson and Anne Trunzo. At the June board meeting, this group proposed ideas to recruit, engage and retain members.
Look for new member opportunities that came out of this work including:
• Fun and fresh member events starting with this month’s Lawn Bowling Social on Tuesday, August 23rd, 5:00-7:00pm. (More info) • An Ambassador program that you’ll learn more about in September
As always, keep inviting guests to our informational meetings. We are more powerful together! |
