What happened: Mayor Patrick McNulty announced the letter of resignation received from Lydia Caballero during a Special Meeting this Monday, August 22, 2022.
Why it matters: Eva Jean Dalton made a public comment on August 5, revealing the absence of Councilwoman Ms. Caballero was due to a recent stroke.
According to the City Charter and the Texas Constitution, any vacancy occurring in the City Council should not be filled by appointment, but by majority vote of the qualified voters at the special election called for such purpose within 120 days after such vacancy occurs or an authorized uniform election day if it occurs within said 120 days.
What now: The filing deadline for the City’s Special Election for City Council Place 4 is this Thursday, August 25, 2022, at 6 PM.
The Special Election will run with the general election on November 8, 2022.
