| Take the Mental Health Stigma Free Pledge! |
As the work-life balance disruptions from COVID-19 stretch on into the foreseeable future, mental health has taken over the national spotlight. Over 20% of US adults experienced mental illness in 2019, amounting to over one in 5 adults (NAMI, 2021). Despite this high prevalence of mental illness, our healthcare system is often ill-equipped to address mental health concerns. Stigma and bias create barriers to care for people with mental illness. Traditional health systems generally fail to integrate mental and behavioral health into preventative care. And providers themselves often face stigma or discrimination when dealing with burnout, anxiety, and depression. A year ago, we invited you to make a difference and help end stigma and discrimination about mental illness by taking the take the Stigma-Free Pledge. Many of you did, thank you. We want to remind those who have not to take a look at the program from the National Alliance on Mental Illness leaders and take the Stigma-Free Pledge.
