With all the outdoors that South Padre Island has to offer, it is easy to stay active while on the Island. Whether it’s doing water sports like surfing, kiteboarding, paddleboarding, boogey boarding, and fishing, or simply walking, cycling, or running, island life makes basic fitness easy.
You can take surfing lessons with a plethora of unique business like ‘Surf Sessions’ who are well known for having a great children’s surfing summer camp. They would be an amazing fit for individuals of any age who would want to go shred some waves on the beach or for learning how to paddle board around the bay.
Another fun on the water activity you could do that is a little more for advanced athletes would be trying to learn how to kiteboard. We have business like ‘ProKite South Padre’ or ‘Air Padre Kiteboarding’ that specialize in kite boarding and delivering the best group or 1-1 sessions available. The best part about these lessons is that everything is provided for you from start to finish so locals and tourist alike can all enjoy this unique experience.
You can’t have the beautiful ocean and Laguna Madre and not mention fishing. We have local guides and public charters that are taking trips year-round. ‘Captain Murphy’s Isla Tours’ is a great all-around choice for conquering the waters of South Padre Island. They offer eco tours and are also very well known for having great bay charter fishing trips along with deep-sea fishing charters.
Once you get your land legs back, there are an abundance of activities to do while on land. South Padre Island offers 13 miles of road right after you turn off the bridge. SPI is a great place for long distance cycling. If you want to take in the view of the beach, you can cycle on the sand with a bike that is specific for riding in sand. If you were to choose to ride in sand, your cycling distance opens from 13 miles to almost 30 miles of pure coastline.
If cycling isn’t for you, SPI also has walkways and sidewalks pretty much up and down the entire residential part of the Island. You can completely walk up and down the beach with set lanes for pedestrians and cycling. These lanes stretch for about 4½ miles, ranging from Isla Blanca Park to The Shores on the north end of the city.
Lastly, if you are in South Padre and want to enjoy strength and cardio training, then visit Island Fitness.
