| Member Spotlight Meet Impact100 Ambassador Brit Bortz! |
One of the thirty-seven new Impact100 ambassadors, Brit Bortz resides in Oconomowoc with her husband of 6 years, Patrick, 3-year-old son Patrick Jr. ("Packy"), 18-month-old daughter, Wynnslet ("Wynn"), and mini goldendoodle, Hollyberry.
Brit joined Impact100 in 2017 and started off serving on a grant committee. She recalls “I loved that role. I really got to participate firsthand in what the organization is all about- addressing the needs of nonprofits in our community. I learned a lot about what goes into choosing the grant recipient like discussions of sustainability and longevity of applicant organizations and ensuring the grant provides benefits for years to come. Also learning about the many amazing nonprofits in the Greater Milwaukee area that I had no idea existed prior to being involved with Impact. Each one exudes immense passion and dedication that you will want to continue your involvement even after the Annual Awards Celebration.”
Brit also held the Membership Engagement Chair position for two years prior to volunteering as an ambassador. What drew her to the ambassador opportunity? Brit shares “The ambassador role is new to our chapter this year. I think it is particularly helpful for new members or for those who are trying to get more involved! The ambassadors are responsible for our own local territory and will offer a friendly reminder for upcoming events, send out important updates, or just be a familiar face and contact if needed.”
|
With a degree in business marketing, Brit worked as a retail buyer for Kohls and Steinhafel’s before becoming a full-time mom and homemaker. She also assists with marketing and advertising at Paramount Financial where her father-in-law and husband have a financial advising practice. Other volunteer work includes fundraising and serving on the events committee for Roger's Behavioral Health.
Additional interests include playing tennis, gardening, hiking, biking-anything outdoors! And Brit’s perfect day: waking up with an uninterrupted cup of coffee, working out, and then spending the day with family, ideally on a lake or just being outside together!
Brit likes knowing that with her Impact100 contribution she is part of a much bigger picture and sees the impact that is possible on our community as a result. She also wants prospective members to know “your participation can ebb and flow from year to year. It is up to you how much or how little you want to be involved! The Annual Awards Celebration is enough of a reason to join. It is an extremely moving and special night.” |

Membership News: Welcoming & Connecting Members Impact100’s Inaugural Ambassador ‘Corps’ |
|
|
|
This fall Impact100 Greater Milwaukee launched our ‘ambassador’ initiative. Thirty-seven Impact100 members make up the ambassador corps, representing the neighborhoods our members work and live in. The ambassador’s role is to make connections with members in their neighborhood, welcome new members, and help keep all informed, invited, and included. Each ambassador serves as a resource to 10-12 members and are available to answer questions regarding Impact100 operations, upcoming events, and volunteer opportunities. In addition, ambassadors assist networking and create connectivity between members and the organization. Membership Engagement Chair, Cynthia Harris, oversees Impact100’s Inaugural Corps:
“We are very excited about the potential for the ambassador project! It is not only a way to offer services and support to our members, it is also a great opportunity for members to become involved as ambassadors, bring their energy and be the ‘face’ of Impact100 in our communities. As ambassadors they learn more about Impact100 Greater Milwaukee, the many opportunities we offer, and in turn, help pass on information to our 400+ members.” Cynthia continues “The response has been very positive! Members tell us they are eager to meet other members in their area. In addition, women are reaching out to their ambassadors for help with renewing or event registration snags. It has been exciting to watch the ‘buzz’ as these connections take root.” In that spirit, Cynthia encourages everyone get to know your ambassador. She can be a great source of information and connection to the organization. You might begin with our introduction to Brit Bortz, the Oconomowoc ambassador, an enthusiastic Impact100 member since 2017. Meet her in this newsletter’s Member Profile! Public Health Highlighted at Global Day of Impact Luncheon Public health was in the spotlight at the Global Day of Impact Luncheon on November 3. Impact100 members gathered at the Red Circle Inn in Delafield to reconnect with each other, introduce their guests to Impact100, and visit with area nonprofit representatives before turning their focus to the featured panel of presenters.
The four-person panel focused on explaining the depth and breadth of public health efforts within the four-county area of Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Washington, and Waukesha. Each speaker began with a slide summarizing their county’s population, demographics, and key indicators. Discussion then turned to shared public health concerns like lead testing, communicable diseases, mental health, and drug use, to name a few, along with the strategic planning and data collection that goes into setting priorities and measuring results around these.
Many thanks to the panelists who coordinated an information-packed presentation and fielded our questions: Darcy DuBois, Public Health Officer, City of Oak Creek Health Department, Milwaukee County
Kirsten Johnson, Commissioner of Health, City of Milwaukee Health Department, Milwaukee County
Hollie Milam, Deputy Director, Washington Ozaukee Public Health Department Frances Thomas, Public Health Strategy Supervisor, Waukesha County Public Health
If you were not able to attend the event, you can still view the panel’s presentation here.
The Global Day of Impact is now an annual event celebrating the cumulative power of collective giving by members of the 60+ chapters of Impact100. At the luncheon, we celebrated eight years of giving by Impact100 Greater Milwaukee members--and were reminded that the excitement has begun for our new giving year. The grant application process is open for 2023! Those grants are fueled by renewing and new members—so make your commitment today.

| Nonprofits News: Follow our 2022 Grantee Spotlights - Beginning this month with Radio Milwaukee
Radio Milwaukee Successfully Launches HYFIN By Liz Smith, Development Manager
Since our time together in June, the Radio Milwaukee team has been busy! We successfully launched HYFIN over Juneteenth and have been out in the community connecting the culture. Launching a new public media endeavor is all about making sure that people know who you are, what you do and how to listen. We have prioritized community events and were very active spreading the word about HYFIN. This has paid off as the number of HYFIN listeners has tripled since our initial launch on June 19, 2022.
HYFIN’s strategic priority is to highlight and amplify Black stories which includes supporting Black-owned businesses. On Saturday, November 26, 2022, HYFIN hosted an event with MKE Black highlighting Black businesses to support for holiday shopping. The ‘Blackity Black Black Holiday Market’ included more than 40 vendors at the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts prior to the Saturday night showing of the Hip Hop Nutcracker. Please continue to support local Black-owned businesses with your holiday shopping!
In October, Radio Milwaukee launched an expansion of our brand to encompass our three music channels – 88Nine, HYFIN and 414Music.fm – as well as our mission-driven stories, events and community programs. This new branding coincided with Radio Milwaukee’s 15th anniversary which we celebrated at a community birthday party! We are excited about plans for the future. More information about our new logo and how it ties into Milwaukee history can be found here.
We are pleased to also share the announcement of new Executive Director, Maxie C. Jackson III, who joined us this fall. Maxie comes to Radio Milwaukee with more than 30 years of experience in public media and has big ideas for moving our organization forward, especially when it comes to uniting our community across lines of difference. Maxie will share more about these exciting plans at the Impact100 Helping Hands event on December 1, 2022.
Our greatest challenge for Radio Milwaukee and HYFIN continues to be fulfilling the match requirement for the grant we received from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. If you are able to support HYFIN through a one-time donation or a sustaining membership please consider joining the HYFIN FAM!
