Re Airlift vs Ground Transportation

I am not trying to tell you there is no transportation problem, I am just sharing our experience.
There is a billboard close to the Harlingen airport. It reads "Elon flies Bro. Why? It's closer." They might also add, Brownsville has better ground transportation. At least that has been our experience. We don't fly as much as Elon, but a number of times when we have flown, we have had no problem arranging ground transportation from the Brownsville airport to the Island. Perhaps we have just been lucky, and, of course we have always made arrangement ahead of time, but we have had no problems.
We did need ground transportation early one morning, from the emergency room at the hospital in Harlingen, back to the Island. It was 2:30am. We called the cab company, waking up the driver. He was there in about 15 minutes. Again, there was not a problem, but there probably were not a lot of folks looking for a ride to the Island at that time of the morning..
We have no personal experience making arrangements for transportation from the Harlingen airport. All of our flights, when coming back home to the Island, have been to Brownsville. What I can say is, I agree with George. If we want people to visit the Island, we should do our best to make sure there are no problems getting to and from these two airports.

I had a client arrive after 5:30 on Sunday and all the rental agencies were closed. He had to spend the night in Harlingen, when he had a reservation at the Courtyard by Marriott on the island. He was not happy. How can airports not have public transportation available until all flights are in? He couldn't get a cab either.
