Preview of January 17 Membership Meeting |
|
|
Mark your calendars now!! On Wednesday, January 17, 2024 (5:00-8:30 p.m.), at a venue TBD, IWWSG will host a membership meeting on “The Investigation & Prosecution of Federal Environmental Crimes: What Environmental Professionals Need to Know”. Tim Chapman, Senior Litigation Counsel in the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Chicago, and Crissy Pellegrin, USEPA Regional Criminal Enforcement Counsel, will present a general introduction to the federal prosecution of environmental crimes, with particular focus on pollution offenses. The discussion will first center on the fundamental differences between civil cases and criminal prosecutions. The presenters will then lead a very frank and open discussion regarding how, in their decades of experience prosecuting federal environmental crimes, they have seen otherwise law-abiding professionals cross the line into the territory of criminal prosecution. Finally, they will discuss some effective ways for environmental professionals to avoid making the same mistakes. You do not want to miss this informative & interesting meeting!!
