Councilwoman Eva Jean Dalton addressed city criticism requested by her constituents about the Laguna Blvd. project. “I’m hearing that the new section that’s done has drainage problems, and very few workers are seen. We have to do something about it,” said Dalton.
- Mayor Patrick McNulty announced a public workshop to discuss South Padre Island city projects will be held on Jan. 4.

Councilman Joseph Ricco recognized Parks Manager Debbie Huffman and City Secretary/PIO Nikki Soto for the work and effort behind the Christmas parade.

Shoreline Director Kristina Boburka announced the City’s recent funding award from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation for dune restoration. “We’re excited to continue the project so we can have a resilient coastline,” to which McNulty responded, “it couldn’t have come at a better time.”

What happened
A motion to appoint John Kerry Schwartz as Mayor Pro-Tem for the term starting Dec. 7 for one year, or until superseded by a new City Council appointment, and approve resolution No. 2022-26 designating the appointment of the Mayor Pro-Tem.
Motion passed.
Why it matters
Eva-Jean Dalton motioned to appoint herself and failed due to the lack of a second on the motion from her peers.
What now
Councilman Ricco motioned to re-appoint Councilman Schwartz to the position seconded by Ken Medders Jr. “Let him do a second year. He’s doing a good job,” said Ricco.
Councilwoman Dalton voted nay.

A motion to approve the marketing buy with The Sport Fishing Championship for $80,000.

Why it matters
CVB Director informed the council that the Sport Fishing Championship is the largest media and marketing rights holder of saltwater fishing tournaments worldwide and partnered with TIFT last summer. “We received a lot of national awareness and attention on CBS television as a result.”

Why it matters
Four companies submitted RFPs and presented them to the City, and the score sheets returned in favor of Deckard Technologies.
