Does anyone remember the Shake Weight? Does anyone still have one? One thing that is always certain is that social media and the fitness world are constantly changing. Fads will come and go because of their lack of evidence and effectiveness.
You have fad diets and telemarketed gym equipment that promise results after a certain amount of use. Luckily, some fitness fads work in real life.
A trendy workout on ‘Tik Tok’ stood the test of social media and stuck around for months post-COVID. People worldwide swore that after weeks of doing this, they were losing all the weight they gained over COVID. It was simple enough to do at your local gym and could apply to any fitness level.
It is called the 3-30-12. “3” stands for 3 mph. “30” is 30 minutes. “12” is the highest incline on most commercial treadmills.
The gist of this workout is emulating walking up a hill. Set the treadmill beginning at 1 if you are just beginning or start it at the incline where you feel comfortable. The incline chosen will be matched with the speed being 3 mph for 30 minutes.
After you get comfortable at Level (incline) 1, move to 2, then 3, etc. You can progress (or regress) the incline level as you gradually improve your fitness or deal with fatigue.
As someone who gave it a try, according to my Apple Watch, it said that those 30 minutes burned 200-300 calories. The best part about it is that you can apply it to any fitness level. You can do it at most fitness centers or on your home treadmill.
Next week, I will bring Part 2 of these popular post-COVID trends. It will also be cardio-based but on a different piece of equipment.
