As we enter this season, filled with holidays, celebrations, and traditions, I am reminded that while it is a time of joy for many, it isn’t a time of joy and merriment for everyone. It’s strange how a time of year that is so filled with hope and connection can also be the source of heartache and isolation.
As I’ve thought about this over the last few weeks, it occurred to me how many of the holidays have light at their core. Whether it’s a star, candles, lanterns, or strings of light. Celebrations and traditions are a time when friends, families, and communities come together. This time of year is filled with giving. Welcoming those familiar to us, but also providing refuge or resources for those in need, often in their darkest hour. There is a profound link there - inviting community, connection, and sharing and brining in our chosen sources of light to drive out darkness.
