Why it matters: The grant allows the police force to purchase 11 ballistic shields, which police have needed to use previously, according to SPI Police Chief Claudine O'Carroll.

Why it matters: The previous municipal court collection company MSB notified the City that the company would no longer provide services in Texas.

What happened: A motion to authorize the city manager to negotiate and execute a contract with Hance Scarborough LLP to provide lobbying services to the City of South Padre Island for the 2023 Texas Legislative session.
Motion passed.
Why it matters: Councilwoman Eva Jean Dalton voiced her concern with the City hiring lobbying services and expressed her vote as no. The council resumed with no comment, and the motion carried.
