Are you hydrated?
When was the last time you had 80 oz of something in a day? Was it water? Water is the purest thing you can consume in your day. Not only is it healthy for your body, but it also helps keep your body’s systems going while you are awake and while you sleep.
On South Padre Island, it is easy to forget about staying hydrated. Things like going out for drinks or having a day on the beach can easily leave you dehydrated. Not to mention that SPI and south Texas are extremely humid, and it is hot 9-10 months out of the year. This means that drinking an adequate amount of water a day is crucial to your body running at its best.
There is no magical number to how much water you should drink each day. Anywhere from 80 to 120 ounces a day would be optimal. That would equal 6-8 water bottles worth of water. Even though that may seem like a lot, it can easily be broken down into drinking a bottle of water every 2 to 3 hours.
Being hydrated also just comes with an overall sense of feeling better. Your body is made of 60% water and your blood is 90% water. Water is very important especially during exercise. Staying hydrated during exercise can support the athlete in maximal output by not becoming dehydrated.
Drinking appropriate amounts of water also comes with benefits that are linked to different parts of your body. Among those benefits is having better skin, regulation of body temperature, regulation of the digestive system, maintenance of blood pressure, prevention of kidney damage, and much more.
Another great benefit of drinking water regularly is weight loss. If you are drinking water, as opposed to sugary drinks or sodas, then your body naturally will lose weight. You will feel better because your body is being nourished by pure water and not a bunch of sugars.
