| Member Spotlight Meet Jill Haupt 2023 Financial Review Rep for Health and Wellness Grant Committee
|
Jill attended the very first Impact100 Annual Award Celebration in June 2016 as a representative of the presenting sponsor that evening, Johnson Financial Group. She fell in love with Impact100’s mission of gathering women philanthropists who combine their resources to create transformative grants for our community. Jill signed on that evening and has been a proud member since! She is inspired by the capacity of Impact100 Greater Milwaukee to make a lasting impact for the grantee organizations and feels tremendous pride for what we collectively have accomplished over these eight years.
Currently on the Financial Review Committee for Health and Wellness, Jill first signed up for a grant committee in 2018, and has subsequently served on one every year. She volunteered for the Financial Review Committee in 2019, and has been in that position rotating through each of the five grant areas of focus since then.
What are members of the Financial Review Committee (FRC) responsible for? Jill explains, “The FRC is made up of five members, one assigned to each of the grant committees, plus the committee Chair. The role of the FRC is to assess the financial stability of the nonprofit applicants and their ability to implement their proposed project, evaluating a nonprofit’s Letter of Interest as well as the full grant proposals.”
For Jill, volunteering with non-profit organizations has been a life-long pleasure. She has served on the boards of many non-profits and philanthropic organizations over the years, including a local community foundation where she learned first-hand about the work that goes into grant-making.
|
Jill has since retired from Johnson Financial Group, having spent her career in banking working with three of the major financial institutions in Wisconsin over that time. She and her husband, Craig, have a lake home in Tomahawk, WI, and recently became residents of West Bend, where their son, daughter-in-law and grandson live. They have another son in the Oak Creek area. Primary interests include traveling and outdoor activities of all types, with favorite destinations including Greece, Maui, Key West, and Sedona, as well as an upcoming trip to Italy.
What has been special about her involvement with Impact100 Greater Milwaukee? Jill shares “ I have learned so much about the needs of our communities, the challenges as well as the hope for making our world a better place one person or organization at a time. I have also learned a great deal from the other members which is why I encourage everyone to get involved in the volunteer opportunities.”
Jill continues, “Two of the most important factors that make Impact100 a great organization are the efficiency of this all-volunteer group of women and the significance of the grants to the non-profits selected. I’ve never seen or been involved with another philanthropic effort that is as effective.” Jill serves as a great example of the many talents and skills, often behind the scenes, that are needed, valued, and contribute to this effective collective Impact!! |

| Membership News:
Spring is…..a time of renewal…….and no better time to renew your membership for 2023-24!
Are you planning to renew using a Donor-Advised Fund? A donor-advised fund, or DAF, is a charitable investment account for the sole purpose of supporting charitable organizations you care about, like Impact100 Greater Milwaukee.
When you contribute cash, securities or other assets to a donor-advised fund, you are generally eligible to take an immediate tax deduction. Then those funds can be invested for tax-free growth, and you can recommend grants to virtually any IRS-qualified public charity.
We have been advised by DAF firms that their donors should schedule requests early because processing takes time. And the mail takes time. So, please begin the process for renewing your membership in early Fall for the 2023-24 membership year! Better yet, do so now and check it off your spring to-do list! There is no need to wait until the end of 2023. Notify your fund that a check needs to be issued for $1,100 and mailed to: Impact100 Greater Milwaukee, PO Box 1061, Brookfield, WI 53008 |

| The Victory Garden Initiative 2023 ‘Garden Blitz’ is about to begin! May 1st-May 6th
Members may recall that VGI has installed over 7,000 raised garden beds throughout Milwaukee since 2009 during their annual Garden Blitz. In order to maintain and grow what has been established, VGI is calling 2023 “The Year of Repair.” The focus of this year’s blitz is to connect with the owners of these beds to see if any are in need of repair, new wood, and/or new soil. The plan is to fortify the established beds so they can continue to provide fresh, healthy food for years to come while building fewer new beds this year. Donations and volunteers are needed to ensure this annual blitz is a success!
The 2023 blitz will be held the week of May 1st–May 6th. To learn more about individual and group volunteer opportunities visit Blitz Volunteer Registration. You can provide financial support for the blitz at Sponsor a Blitz Garden! and corporate sponsors are also welcome! Thank you!

| Our Final 2022 Grantee Spotlight: Advocates of Ozaukee
Members have become very familiar over the past year with our final 2022 grantee, Advocates of Ozaukee, a domestic abuse shelter providing a 24-hour crisis line, emergency transportation to the shelter, temporary safe housing, meals, advocacy, counseling, education support for children, and follow-up services.
As a 2022 finalist Advocates introduced their mission and project vision- funding to support the remaining part of a renovation and expansion project, including demolition and construction of a new playground, children’s computer center, lower-level exercise room and dog kennel, upgraded security, and temporary housing for clients during the construction. Then as an Impact Grant winner, Advocates shared an update at our December 2022 Helping Hands event, and provided insight and perspective on the issues surrounding domestic violence at our March 2023 Beyond the Headlines event.
As a continuing education opportunity for our members, Advocates Executive Director, Barb Fischer, offers an informative article and additional resources on Teen Dating Violence for teens and parents, in recognition of the recently concluded Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month (TDVAM).
Dating violence is more common than you may think, especially among teens and young adults: 1 in 3 U.S. teens will experience physical, sexual, or emotional abuse from someone they’re in a relationship with before they become adults. And nearly half (43%) of U.S. college women report experiencing violent or abusive dating behaviors. Each February, young adults and their loved ones across the nation raise awareness about the issue of teen dating violence through Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month (TDVAM). This annual, month-long effort focuses on advocacy and education to stop dating abuse before it starts. Ms. Fischer shares:
