| Membership News: 1st Annual Volunteer Appreciation Celebration!
A Heartfelt 'Thank YOU' to all our 2022-23 Member Volunteers!
The 1st Annual Volunteer Appreciation Celebration was held on Wednesday, April 19th at the Hoyt Park Grand Hall. Though it was a dark and stormy night, over 50 members and volunteers made it out for a fun-filled evening. This event was hosted to express appreciation for and celebrate the many members who devote their time and talent to ensure that all things Impact100 Greater Milwaukee take shape and run smoothly.
As an all-volunteer organization, our volunteers are CRITICAL to Impact’s success! Whether a grant committee member, an Impact Ambassador, on the grant financial review committee, serving as a committee chair, on the Board of Directors and leadership team, staffing an event, managing the website, cultivating nominees, contributing to the newsletters, posting social media…………and everything in between…….Impact100 would not ‘be’ without all the volunteer hours, expertise, and resources our members donate so selflessly.
Plans for next year’s 2nd Annual Appreciation Celebration will be in the works, so be sure to watch for a ‘Save the Date!’ We hope to see YOU there with our 2023-24 volunteers!

| Planning for future Impact! 2023 Impact100 Greater Milwaukee’s Leadership Summit We are excited to host Impact100 Greater Milwaukee’s first ever LEADERSHIP SUMMIT! As we approach our ten-year anniversary in 2025, the Impact100 Board is focused on ensuring our continued success. Led by the dynamic and experienced Terri Phillips, Principal Consultant for SJD Consulting, an enthusiastic and passionate group of past and present Impact100 leaders will gather Saturday, June 3rd to strategically think about our organization. President-Elect Julie Gilpin states the goals for this session are to: • Honor the history and celebrate the accomplishments of Impact100 MKE.
• Build a shared understanding of the strengths, challenges, and future opportunities for the organization. • Develop a shared practical vision and focus for the next 3-5 years.
• Allow participants an opportunity to reflect on the past, clarify their inputs on the future direction, and begin identifying priorities. • Continue to build relationships among those dedicated to Impact100 and have fun!
These are lofty goals for a relatively short session, but a lot of research and work has gone into the planning of this important summit, including a year’s worth of work by the Strategic Planning Committee. Many thanks to committee members: Jill Boyle, Marikris Coryell, Julie Gilpin, Cynthis Harris, Kate Hauser, Norma Herbers, Kathy Morris, Kathleen Schulter, and Anne Trunzo, for ALL their efforts! They brainstormed possibilities and questioned leaders on Impact100’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats, and inspired the Board to think strategically about our future.
Additionally, each leader invited to the Summit has been asked to complete a survey. The results of this survey, as well as the body of work provided by the Strategic Planning Committee, will be used to frame the discussion on June 3rd.
The Board hopes this is the first of many steps Impact100 will take to be strategic in its efforts. We look forward to sharing summit results with the membership and then engaging many members throughout the process in the years ahead. |

| Time to Turn Over: Many thanks to our outgoing Impact100 leadership…..and a look towards next year!
At this time of year all focus is understandably on the upcoming AAC and the excitement around the grant finalists. At the same time, a quiet transition traditionally takes place at the Impact100 May Board of Directors meeting, when outgoing directors are thanked, and the incoming leadership slate is approved. This year’s outgoing leadership group includes several who have been members since Impact100 Greater Milwaukee’s inaugural year (2015), and nearly all have served on at least one grant committee as well. They are:
Past president Tracy Gobis – Joining at the beginning in 2015, Tracy served as a Grant Chair for 2 years on the Health and Wellness Grant team, then continued as Grant Director for 2 years overseeing all functions related to the grants process, followed by a term as Membership Director. She then became the friendly and familiar leadership face of the organization helping successfully navigate through the years of Covid as President Elect and President. Tracy now completes her year serving as Past President, in support of the current President and Board of Directors, including Nominating Committee responsibilities.
Systems Director Nancy Kuhlman – Also a member since 2015, Nancy served on the Family Grant Committee, and most importantly was that ‘woman behind the curtain,’ initially as Neon Chair for a couple years and then as the Systems Director for 5 years. As such Nancy was responsible for website, email, and membership software management, and all things mysterious and technical behind Impact100 events and operations. As technology needs for the organization have grown, Nancy’s expertise has been invaluable, also serving on the team that researched and acquired our current MemberLeap platform.
Communications Director Suzette Urbashich – Joining Impact100 in 2019, Suzette served 2 years on the Health & Wellness Grant Committee. She then signed on with Ann Homstad as Communications Co-director in 2021, working alongside Internal Chair and graphic designer Kathy Lockwood. Under their leadership Impact100’s communications’ branding and quality continue to elevate, including the transition to the MemberLeap platform. Suzette assumed the solo Director role in 2022, overseeing and coordinating communications with other teams for the growing number of Impact100 events including print, email, mailings, social media, and regular newsletters, as well the ongoing communications campaign supporting the grants process.
Membership Recruitment Director Karin Gale – As a Founding board member in 2015, Karin worked collaboratively with then Grant Directors Robin Martin and Ann Homstad, also fellow Founding member Jamy Malatesta, to establish and administrate Foundant- Impact100’s grant management software platform. Karin’s focus was the financial review piece which continues to be a best practice. She has served as a Director each of 7 years, and 1 year as a Chair since 2015, most recently 3 years in Membership. Her professional affiliations with Schenck, and now CLA, have provided a home for Impact100's in-person board and member training meetings.
Friends of Impact Director Julie Sellars – An Impact100 member for 6 years, Julie has served as the Friends of Impact Director for the past 4 years (July 2019-June 2023), cultivating sponsors, donors, and in-kind contributions to support Impact100 event expenses. One of our ‘behind the scenes’ directors, Julie has also administrated and managed related agreements as well as coordinated with Communications and Program teams around sponsor and donor recognition. Also a Grant Committee member in 2021, Julie believes wholeheartedly in the Impact100 mission and feels fortunate to be a member alongside such a great group of women.
The Impact100 organization extends heartfelt thanks to these outgoing members of the leadership team for their many years of dedicated service and expertise! |

| Nonprofits News: Impact100 Members “Connect & Serve” at Advocates of Ozaukee
Our 2022 grant recipient, Advocates of Ozaukee, hosted two small group sessions on May 3rd and 6th at their residential shelter in Ozaukee County. This gave our members a close-up look at the work being done for those experiencing domestic violence or sex trafficking. At the same time, participants were able to meet other members and work on a special service project. One group assembled gift bags for the children to give their mothers on Mother’s Day. The other group put together gift bags for moms to give to their children when a little TLC is needed on birthdays or at other times during the year.
This was a special opportunity to experience the tranquil and serene rural setting of the Advocates shelter which provides healing and recovery for women and families. Members heard about the extensive programs offered by Advocates in addition to their educational outreach programs that create awareness about domestic violence and sex trafficking prevention. We also learned about how the improvements to the shelter, funded by Impact100, will positively impact residents’ recovery. Additions include a workout facility, laundry room, pet care area, and children’s play area. The facility will also increase the number of bedrooms in order to accommodate more residents.
Thank you, Advocates of Ozaukee, for hosting this meaningful experience for our members! |
