Communities in Indiana are giving between $5,000 and $15,000 to remote workers to relocate to their cities. https://www.makemymove.com/get-paid?gad=1&gclid=CjwKCAjw1YCkBhAOEiwA5aN4AW5RQYMrTj8GVaCGovydQ1HkPC64FX-9HxFmZaajo4D_agqsE5OK-BoCwRkQAvD_BwE South Padre Island seems like a MUCH better destination! Should we be trying the same strategy?
The fastest way to become a year-round economy is to have more permanent residents. We desperately need to focus on workforce housing, so that those who work on our island can live on our island. Until then, we could focus on attracting more well-educated, affluent, full-time residents.
More foot and bike traffic on our streets and more people shopping in our stores builds a more resilient local economy. Every local business relies on locals first to survive the very long “off-season.”
