Kettlebells
Gym equipment has the stigma of being clunky and heavy and usually takes up a lot of space. For the most part, gym equipment does fit that description, but not Kettlebells. Kettlebells are rounded-out weights with big handles on top of them. They also have a flat bottom to sit upright. They come in weights ranging from 3 lbs. to over 50 lbs. You can perform all types of exercises with them and use them to work out any part of your body.
Kettlebells are most used in CrossFit-style workouts because of their ease to grab and go. You can also use them to work out individual or groups of muscles. They can work out your biceps, shoulders, glutes, hamstrings, quads, and core. Most exercises include more than one muscle group. These are very accommodating if you are on vacation and need a way to work out without bringing your entire gym setup. A kettlebell could easily fit in a little corner of your vehicle, and all you need is a couple of feet of space, and you can have a great exercise session.
Kettlebells are a great way to improve functional fitness. They can be used to improve balance and coordination. Exercises with kettlebells can often mimic real-life movements such as squatting, bending over, lifting, or picking up something. Movements like farmers' carries can also replicate something as common as bringing groceries from your car.
One of the most appealing aspects of kettlebell training is the combination of cardiovascular and strength training. The dynamic use of the kettlebell can build muscle while also stressing your cardiovascular system. A great example would be kettlebell swings. Swinging the kettlebell requires muscular strength to control and push the equipment forward and requires the cardiovascular system to maintain the movement for either reps or time.
Kettlebells can be bought at any store like a Walmart or Target and with more selection at locations like Dick’s Sporting Goods or Academy.
