Allison, an 18-year-old turtle living in Sea Turtle Inc., died on Monday, the organization said in a statement on Facebook Monday.
Allison was pulled from her tank on Saturday morning after exhibiting signs of Buoyancy and other issues. On Monday, the medical team drew blood and took samples. They found Allison unresponsive. The cause of death has yet to be determined, and a autopsy will be performed on Allison.
Rescued on the shore of South Padre on Jun 16, 2005, Allison was found with three of her four flippers missing due to an attack. Sea Turtle Inc brought Allison in, and created a prosthetic that allowed Allison to swim better.
"We are deeply saddened by Allison's passing. Allison was the epitome of perseverance, grit, and strength to overcome. She made a meaningful impact on our staff, volunteers, and millions of guests in the last 18 years, and she will be greatly missed," said Wendy Knight, CEO of Sea Turtle Inc.
