South Padre Island was a recent host to another great fishing weekend. After the success of TIFT, it was the Lady Kingfish’s Tournament time to shine. Last Saturday, 245 female anglers and 87 boats participated in the bay and offshore division to catch fish, have fun, and compete. Bay anglers were reeling in redfish, flounder, and trout. Offshore anglers baited kingfish, bonito, dolphin, and black fin tuna. There were over 80 prizes available through raffles the weekend, ranging from music systems to dinners at restaurants on the Island. Tourney winners were celebrated at an awards ceremony last Sunday.
There was a bit of controversy at the LKT. The weighing scale broke as the bay division anglers were coming in to weigh their fish. There was a standstill for 45 minutes until a new scale was brought in. A few bay anglers decided not to weigh their fish because they were uncomfortable with using a different scale than the one used by other anglers. All offshore anglers used the same scale and no issues arose. |
