The 2023 Solar Eclipse is here!
Saturday, October 14th, you will be able to view the annual solar eclipse here at South Padre Island, weather permitting. The best thing is that SPI will be the last to view Texas's full eclipse.
This eclipse, called the Annular Eclipse, will be shown with the moon covering the sun. However, since the moon’s size appears smaller than the sun's, it will create a "ring of fire," showing just the sun's outer edge.
Do not look directly into the sun. Buy filter glasses so you can see the full eclipse. You can purchase glasses at H-E-B for $1.55.
The maximum eclipse will start at 12:01 p.m. and last around 5 minutes. You can see the partial eclipses starting at 10:30 a.m. through 1:42 p.m. You can follow the full schedule here.
If you get any interesting photos, send them to Island Matters! We'd love to publish everyone's point of view.
