Last weekend, two legendary sand sculptors, Walter McDonald, and Lucinda Wierenga, hosted Sandcastle Days at Clayton’s Beach Bar. The 35th iteration of this event showcased ten unique sand sculptors worldwide, and anyone could see their creativity simply by walking on the beach! Spectators could see the designs created in real time and ask the artists questions about how their ideas came to mind. People could interact with the artists, and there was also a massive tent with pop-up shops inside and moon castles for the kids. If you want to see the unique sculptures from Sandcastle Days, Clayton's has the designs up until the end of October, barring inclement weather.
Ilya Filimontsev, a sculpture from Moscow, Russia, won 1st place with this beautiful design. You can check out his bio here. |

Clayton Brashear, the owner of Clayton’s Beach Bar, declined to give any updates on the fishing pier. The pier, first approved in 2018, is planned to expand to 1,000 feet long, where its primary use will be for fishing.
In February, KRGV reported that the intended target date for completion was early 2024. However, with the pier, as pictured, in its current state, early 2024 certainly seems unlikely. Currently, the pier is closed to the public and only used for the weekend fireworks at 9:15 PM.
