How Vicente Gonzalez's District Office Helps the Community & Small Businesses

Guest Speaker, District Director, Laura Matamoros

By Sarah-Victoria Lozano

U.S. Congressman Vicente Gonzalez's District Director, Laura Matamoros, visited Padre Island Brewing Co. on behalf of the SPI Chamber for its Coffee and Conversation.

Matamoros gave a presentation offering different ways their offices can help the community.

"What we do is we intercede, we come through, and we engage the agency on their behalf," said Matamoros.

The congressional district offices offer the community help with agriculture, healthcare, seniors and Medicare, veterans and military, education, and more.

Matamoros extended the office's help to community members who need help with the IRS or have had their identities stolen.

"Reach out to our office. Our office can help you. We have awesome success stories," said Matamoros.

Engaging with the Congressional District Office

According to Matamoros, the first step is calling to talk to staff to filter the necessary federal agency. Next is filling out a privacy release form, which is required. The privacy release form allows the team to speak on your behalf and for agencies to disclose your information.

Other Services

The office also offers grant guidance, community project funding requests, tickets and tours in Washington D.C., book programs, art competitions, etc.

"We also write letters of support for grants," said Matamoros. "If your company or entity is looking to get grants, it helps sometimes to have a letter of support from the Congressman himself."
