Christmas Tree Lighting Readies SPI for Holidays

By Jeremy Bochniak

Even a cloudy, humid Thursday evening couldn’t stop hundreds of gatherers from getting in the Christmas spirit and celebrating Visit SPI’s annual Christmas tree lighting at the SPI visitors center.

The first of many Christmas-related events here in South Padre Island kicked off just past Thursday Nov. 30 at 5:30 p.m. with the help of Santa Claus and city helpers. Along the island, you will see many Christmas decorations from restaurants, stores, and private residences as the community welcomes Winter Texans and families visiting during the holiday season.

If you missed the tree lighting but would like to visit on your own, you will have plenty of chances until 2024 arrives. The tree is located at 321 Padre Boulevard, on the south end of the Island, directly across from the new Margaritaville hotel.

Happy December, Islanders!
