Brad Robinson's Fresh Approach to Enhance South Padre Island's City Council

by Jeremy Bochniak

Brad Robinson and his family moved from Amarillo to South Padre Island in June of 2023 after years of visiting and falling in love with SPI as a vacation get-a-way. Now, as a resident, Robinson wants to bring a fresh set of eyes to the City Council and to make the place he and his family loves, even better.

Robinson, a manager of multiple CVS Pharmacies for the last 15 years, is no stranger to politics.

“I mean, since I was a kid, I’ve always loved following politics,” Robinson told Island Matters in an interview Friday evening. “I’ve always felt like it’s my duty to vote. If the opportunity runs to lead, then go for it.”

Robinson served as a precinct chair in Amarillo for six months, rewriting bylaws for his county, as well as canvassing neighborhoods, and encouraging people to vote during elections.

Robinson’s focal points, if elected to office, include a focus on pedestrian safety. Robinson and his wife Amy frequently ride their bikes around the area and have concerns in terms of visibility. They believe while the safety here in SPI is good, there is always a way to improve, and he wants to help.

Another key point is Robinson’s commitment to helping businesses on the island, especially locally owned and small businesses, thrive in this market which will continue to make SPI unique and special.

“The small and local business drive the economy here,” Robinson said. “That’s where my heart is, is to support them. Whatever we can do to make it easier for them. That’s where my heart is.”

Lastly, Robinson is sticking to his early roots, encouraging all residents of the island to vote.

“If we can get everybody on the sland voting, that’d be fantastic,” Robinson said.

“Whether it’s for me or somebody else, that’s not as important as getting out and making sure your voice is known and making it heard.”

While Robinson does not have any meet and greets currently scheduled, you can reach out if you have any questions for him directly at Brad4SPI@gmail.com.

Early voting starts Wednesday, January 17th. Get out and vote!
