Greetings Dear Friends! If you are a die-hard baseball fan, you may be excited about the prospects of attending an upcoming double header! Well, IWWSG has an even better offer coming up soon!! A planned “quint-header”!! Our Wednesday, April 17 Membership Meeting will consist of FIVE parts: -
An optional tour (led by Dick Lanyon, retired MWRD Executive Director) of MWRD's historic Racine Avenue Pumping Station, an essential infrastructure that conveys wastewater and stormwater from local sewers to provide drainage and protection for 145,000 residents;
-
An exploration of the nearby Chicago Maritime Museum (CMM), on the shores of Bubbly Crek at the the Bridgeport Art Center. Remember, at varying times, Chicago has been the busiest port or one of the busiest ports in the world!

A catered BYOB dinner at CMM, providing a great neworking opportunity, followed by a water/wastewater update presentation from John Kim, Director of the Illinois EPA;
- A highlight of the IWWSG year! Presentation of the 2024 E. Ted Erickson Distinguished Environmental Professional Award.

And....the announcement of the nominees for the '24-'25 Steering Committee Officers & Members, the crew of volunteers that will guide IWWSG as it begins its 77th Year!
Since the CMM venue has limited capacity, we encourage you to sign up as soon as the reservation process opens up (next week!!).
We are also firmed up our May Membership Meeting plans!! A tour of a Circon/Covanta waste facility, Hodgkins, IL, followed by a dinner at a nearby venue. Please keep Wednesday, May 22, 2024; 5:00 PM open. It is sure to be interesting and informative with fabulous dinner venue afterwards to end the day, a great way to end the season!!
Even if you haven’t participated recently, we cordially invite you, especially our Industrial leaders, to be part of our Group and take advantage of a discounted meeting rate. We advertise our members in our newsletters and have a site on our website with membership names and details of the company for all to access and use. February Joint Meeting Recap |

Thank you to our presenter and attendees for making our February Joint IWEA/IWWSG Membership Meeting at Grill 89 in Westmont a very informative and enjoyable event (see photos above)! We again appreciated the good turnout and our special speaker, Newton Ellens, Environmental Engineer and USEPA Region 5 Pretreatment Program Manager, who provided an interesting presentation on the Agency’s Pretreatment Program. Invites to come out next week! On Wednesday, April 17, 2024, the IWWSG Meeting will be held at the Chicago Maritime Museum (1200 W. 35th Street, Chicago), and will be preceded by a optional private guided tour of the MWRD’s nearby Racine Avenue Pumping Station (RAPS) with our own Dick Lanyon, (retired MWRD Executive Director). Invitations will be sent out next week for the full event, The RAPS tour is complimentary and the MWRD has a strict deadline, so please register early for this part of the event! The recipient of the 2024 E. Ted Erickson “Distinguished Environmental Professional Award” was announced at the February 21 Joint IWEA/IWWSG Dinner/Meeting – John J. Kim, Director of the Illinois EPA (our April Membership Meeting speaker!!). The Award, named in honor of founder E. Ted Erickson, was established by the IWWSG in 2000 to recognize an individual who has make a significant contribution(s) in the environmental area, especially at the local and regional levels. The award is granted based on recognition of the recipient’s community service advancing IWWSG goals, leadership / service to environmental professional organizations, including IWWSG, and contributions to the field of environmental laws / compliance / management / education. The Award will be presented to Director Kim at the April 17 Meeting.

Call for Volunteers: IWWSG Needs your Time & Talent |

We are always looking for additional volunteers to assist with the organization and running of IWWSG. Our annual election for the Steering Committee will be coming up soon. If you are not sure you want to jump into a Steering Committee position, but still want to get involved, we are always looking for members to assist with tasks such as Membership (contacting fellow members and thank them for renewing their membership or reminding them they need to renew), Communications (helping to update our website and social media postings), Recruitment (recruiting new members and meeting speakers), and Events (help plan events). If you would like to run for a Steering Committee position, assist with other IWWSG activities, or have any questions about getting involved, please check with Chair Barb Scapardine. Your involvement makes a big difference!
