For three nights, visitors and residents delighted in an escape into the world of laughter, romance, and a touch of chaos, watching Andrea Wright star in a one-woman stage play, "Bad Dates" by Theresa Rebeck. Directed by the talented Joann Evans and presented by El Paseo Arts, this 90-minute show was an unpredictable and clever mix of emotions that left audiences thoroughly entertained.
Presented at the SPI Convention Center, the play unfolds entirely within the confines of Haley's bedroom, where she shares her innermost thoughts, dreams, and, of course, her collection of shoes. Haley reveals all the unseen events through clever and well-delivered monologues, recounting her dating misadventures with wit, charm, and a healthy dose of self-deprecating humor. |

Her ability to command the stage and engage the audience was truly impressive, keeping viewers enthralled from start to finish. From disastrous blind dates to comical encounters with quirky characters, Haley's journey is filled with laughter, heartache, and self-discovery. Wright delivered a practically perfect performance as Haley, bringing her character and each scenario to life with impeccable timing and boundless enthusiasm.

This type of undertaking would daunt even seasoned actors, and Wright, tasked with memorizing a 90-minute script, delivered it effortlessly and naturally.
The set design for "Bad Dates" positively set the mood and provided Wright with an ideal environment for her performance. Haley's bedroom, the sole setting, reflected her character's personality and experiences, creating an intimate space for her to share her dating escapades. Every detail contributed to the authenticity of the setting, immersing the audience in Haley's world and enhancing their connection to the story. Overall, the set design and Evan’s well-executed blocking enriched the audience's theatrical experience, complementing Wright's performance. One standout aspect of the production was the fantastic shoe collection lent to the production by area residents. These impressive pieces added an extra layer of authenticity to Haley's character, enhancing the overall immersive experience for the audience.
