Island Matters Secures Vital Grant for Independent Journalism – Calls for Community Support

by Sarah-Victoria Lozano de Gonzalez

Island Matters, an independent news outlet, has once again secured a $20,000 grant from the Google News Initiative through Local Independent Online News Publishers, Inc. (LION).

This recurring grant underscores Island Matters' commitment to unbiased reporting and its pivotal role in serving the island community. Aimed at bolstering operational resilience and financial health, the grant signifies a vote of confidence in Island Matters' proven track record, having received support in the past. LION ensures swift disbursement within 90 days upon verifying active operation.

For Island Matters, this grant is more than financial aid; it symbolizes a continued investment in the future of independent journalism on the island, enabling the outlet to persist in its mission as a reliable news source and community voice.

However, it's essential to note that this grant covers just over a month of operating expenses. To sustain Island Matters, we rely on our Subscribers becoming Members and local businesses becoming Sponsors.

If you appreciate our contributions to the community, please consider supporting Island Matters.

Island Matters actively accepts donations and offers business sponsorships and ad space for $50 a month.
